It was there that she confirmed her passion for working with adults experiencing communication and swallowing difficulties. There followed five years in a renowned rehabilitaion hospital in Johannesburg which further consolidated her interest in the field of rehabilitation. In 2006, Claire started her own private practice which is based at the Mayo Clinic on the West Rand. Claire has a particular interest in helping individuals who have aphasia and apraxia and has had the pleasure of working with a wide variety of individuals and their family members as they journey along the path of recovery. Claire's vision is to develop and provide a comprehensive speech therapy service in adult neurology to individuals and family members living in and around the West Rand. A communication or swallowing problem does not affect the inidividual in isolation but has a profound effect on the entire family system requiring a holistic and dynamic approach to rehabilitation. Claire has a strong belief in the necessity of a team approach in treating individuals and she works closely with a team of neuro physiotherapists, occupational therapists and psychologists in the process of rehabilitation. |
